Who won’t be happy with this pose?
Have you ever tried this relaxing and calming pose, Happy Baby (Ananda Balasana)? And have you seen some babies busting some yoga moves just casually as they are lying around and rolling on the floor? Well, yup, that’s kind of what this pose resembles. Exactly like how a baby lying on its back and holding onto its feet. I’m sure you’ve seen something like this before. This relaxing pose that stretches the entire body and calms the mind (and body), is a great way to open up the entire body and allowing yourself to focus “within”. This pose not only helps improve flexibility and mobility, it can also ease stress and anxiety, and improve fatigue and tiredness.
Always try to do this pose either in the warm up (a light one) or in the end to cool down. I always like to incorporate this pose towards the end of my session where your body is already warmed up and may need some calming down to really “unwind”.
I hope you can find time to just come on your back, grab onto your feet and let yourself rock to side to side once in a while. I mean….I do it, too! It’s nice (and funny how babies can easily do this!)

Happy Baby Pose Ananda Balasana
This pose seems quite relaxing and easy, be careful not to make common mistakes to benefit the most from this pose.
- Keep your shoulders on the floor or mat at all times. Make sure to keep them down as you reach forward. If you can’t keep your shoulders down, then try to hold onto your ankles or shins rather than the outer edge of your feet.
- Keep your head on the mat to keep your neck relaxed and avoid any neck strain. If this is quite hard, then you can always place a towel or a small pillow under your head. Keep your jaws soft as you breath calmly and deeply here.
Benefits: great positive effects from this pose
- opens up the inner thighs, hips and groin
- helps relieve some tension and problems in the lower back
- can help realign and stretch the spine
- can help ease stress and anxiety
- can help improve tiredness and fatigue
- great for hamstring stretch
- can lower heart rate
Keep your jaw soft and smile — yoga can keep you happy. Namaste <3
